If your school has decided to allow pupil and parent accounts for Class Charts, you are able to control what information is accessible for each account type. This can be used to hide detailed behaviour information from pupils but not from parents, or control how attendance records are shared.
To choose what pupils & parent accounts at your school can access, click on the three lines menu and select School Settings from the list of available options.
Next, click on the Pupils & Parents tab on the left hand side.
Depending on your school’s setup, you will presented with the following settings which allow you to control what parents & pupils can see through their accounts:
Share activity feed with pupils and parents
Enabled: Parents & Pupils will be able to see the activity feed and behaviour breakdown graphs through their accounts.
Disabled: Pupils & Parents will only see the behaviour breakdown graphs.
Parents only: Only parent accounts will be able to see the activity feed and behaviour breakdown graphs . Pupil accounts will only see the behaviour breakdown graphs.
Pupils only: Only pupil accounts will be able to see the activity feed and behaviour breakdown graphs . Parents accounts will only see the behaviour breakdown graphs.
A preview activity feed can be seen below the settings in Pupils & Parents.
Show teacher & lesson name for shared activity
Enabled: Teacher and lesson name will appear for each behaviour in the activity feed.
Disabled: Teacher and lesson name will not appear for each behaviour in the activity feed.
Positive only: Teacher and lesson name will appear for positive behaviours only in the activity feed.
Negative only: Teacher and lesson name will appear for negative behaviours only in the activity feed.
Only share activity since
Selecting a date from this drop down box will only show behaviour activity from the selected date.
Show detention activity
All activity: Select this option to display all of the pupil’s issued detentions in the Behaviour and Detentions tabs.
Since last August: Select this option to display the pupil’s issued detentions since August in the Behaviour and Detentions tabs.
Wellbeing guideline text (displayed to parents)
This text will be displayed on the Wellbeing tab for parent accounts.
Wellbeing guideline text (displayed to pupils)
This text will be displayed on the Wellbeing tab for pupil accounts.
Show behaviour notes for shared activity for parents / Show behaviour notes for shared activity for parents
Enabled: Behaviour notes will be displayed for behaviours in the activity feed.
Disabled: Behaviour notes will not be displayed for behaviours in the activity feed.
Positive only: Behaviour notes will only be displayed for positive behaviours in the activity feed.
Negative only: Behaviour notes will only be displayed for negative behaviours in the activity feed.
Allow parents and pupils to record wellbeing submissions
Enabled: Parents and pupils are able to record wellbeing submissions through their accounts.
Disabled: Parents and pupils are unable to record wellbeing submissions through their accounts.
Pupils only: Only pupils are able to record wellbeing submissions through their accounts.
Parents only: Only parents are able to record wellbeing submissions through their accounts.
Timetable to pupils and parents
Enabled: Parents and pupils are able to view timetable information through their accounts.
Disabled: Parents and pupils are unable to view timetable information through their accounts.
Pupils only: Only pupils are able to view timetable information through their accounts.
Parents only: Only parents are able to view timetable information through their accounts.
Allow teachers to add notes to pupil timetable entries
Enabled: Teachers will be able to add notes to their timetable, which will be displayed on the Timetable tab in pupil and parent accounts.
Disabled: Teachers will not be able to add notes to their timetable.
Allow parents/carers to award positive behaviours
Enabled: Parents will be able to issue positive behaviour awards through their parent accounts.
Disabled: Parents will not be able to issue positive behaviour awards through their parent accounts.
Allow pupils & parents to view the list of classes
Enabled: A pupil’s full class list is displayed through pupil and parent accounts.
Enabled (SIMS classes excluded): A pupil’s list of manual classes is displayed through pupil and parent accounts.
Disabled: A pupil’s class list is not displayed through pupil and parent accounts.
Allow pupils to upload homework via pupil account
Enabled: Pupils will be able to upload attachments for homework tasks that require uploaded submissions.
Disabled: Pupils will not be able to upload attachments for homework tasks.
Allow parents/carers to upload homework via parent account
Enabled: Parents will be able to upload attachments on the behalf of a pupil for homework tasks that require uploaded submissions.
Disabled: Parents will not be able to upload attachments on the behalf of a pupil for homework tasks.
Send homework feedback as push notifications:
Enabled: Pupils and parents will receive a push notification on their Class Charts app when a teacher leaves feedback on their uploaded homework submissions.
Disabled: Pupils and parents will not receive push notifications when a teacher leaves feedback on their uploaded homework submissions.
Share homework submissions and feedback with parents/carers
Enabled: Parents / carers will be able to view a pupil’s homework submissions and any associated feedback.
Disabled: Parents / carers will be able to see that a pupil has been left homework feedback, but not the details.
Email announcement notifications to parents
Enabled: Parents will receive a notification email if an announcement is sent to them.
Disabled: Parents will not receive a notification email if an announcement is sent to them.
Send announcements as push notifications
Enabled: Pupils and Parents will receive a push notification on their mobile device if they are sent an announcement.
Disabled: Pupils and Parents will not receive any push notifications for announcements.
Allow consent via announcements
Enabled: This setting allows teachers to require consent when sending announcements. Parents can receive announcements that require them to confirm or deny consent.
Disabled: Parents will only be sent regular announcements.
Allow comments on announcements
Enabled: This setting provides teachers with the option to include public or private parental comments on announcements.
Disabled: Teachers cannot give parents the option of leaving comments on announcements.
Allow positive reactions on announcements
Enabled: This setting provides teachers with the option to include positive reactions from parents on announcements.
Disabled: Teachers cannot give parents the option of leaving positive reactions on announcements.
Allow parents/carers to report absences
Enabled: Parents will be able to report their child’s absences from their parent accounts.
Disabled: Parents will not be able to report absences.
Absence reporting help text for parents/carers
This text will be displayed on the Report absences tab for parent accounts.
Allow teachers to see parent contact info
School admins and attendance admins only: Only users with these permissions can see parental contact info on the Display all page in the Attendance section of Analytics.
School admins, attendance admins and analytics users: Users with these permissions can see parental contact info on the Display all page in the Attendance section of Analytics.
Allow pupils & parents to view intelligence event badges
Enabled: Pupils and Parents will see the Badges section within their accounts, for when pupils earn badges through intelligence events.
Disabled: Pupils and parents will not see the Badges section within their accounts.
Share custom fields with pupils and parents
Enabled: Selected custom fields can be shared with pupils and parents for each yeah group.
Parents only: Only parents will see custom fields that are shared with them. Custom fields to be shared with pupils can still be set up however.
Pupils only: Only pupils will see custom fields that are shared with them. Custom fields to be shared with parents can still be set up however.
Disabled: Custom fields cannot be shared with pupils and parents.
Activity from MIS
Show activity originating from MIS (SIMS, etc) for parents / Show activity originating from MIS (SIMS, etc) for pupils
Please note: If Share activity feed with pupils and parents is set to Disabled, these settings will be hidden and disabled automatically.
Enabled: Behaviours that were added through your MIS will be displayed in the activity feed.
Disabled: Behaviours that were added through your MIS will not be displayed in the activity feed.
Positive only: Positive behaviours that were added through your MIS will be displayed in the activity feed.
Negative only: Negative behaviours that were added through your MIS will be displayed in the activity feed.
Show behaviour notes for activity originating from MIS (SIMS, etc) for parents /pupils
Please note: If Show behaviour notes for shared activity for parents / Show behaviour notes for shared activity for pupils, Show behaviour notes for activity originating from MIS (SIMS, etc) for parents / Show behaviour notes for activity originating from MIS (SIMS, etc) for pupils are set to Disabled, these settings will automatically be disabled.
Enabled: Behaviour notes that were added through your MIS will be displayed in the activity feed.
Disabled: Behaviour notes that were added through your MIS will not be displayed in the activity feed
Attendance
If the attendance module has been enabled for your school, you can also control how attendance information is shared with pupils and parents.
Share attendance with pupils and parents
Enabled: Parents and pupils can see the attendance records.
Disabled: Parents and pupils cannot see attendance records.
Parents only: Only parents can see the attendance records for their child.
Pupils only: Only pupils can see their attendance records.
Share lesson attendance
Enabled: Lesson attendance and session attendance will be displayed to pupils and parents.
Disabled: Only session attendance will be displayed to pupils and parents.
Hide today’s attendance from pupils and parents
Hide: Attendance information for the current day is not shown to pupils and parents.
Show: Attendance information for the current day is shown to pupils and parents.
Detentions
If the detentions module has been enabled for your school, you can also control how detention information is shared with pupils and parents.
Email detention notifications to parents
Enabled: Parents will receive email notifications when their child receives a detention.
Disabled: Parents will not receive email notifications when their child receives a detention.
Enabled, but without details (class and teacher): Parents will receive basic email notifications when their child receives a detention, which does not include the class name or the awarding teacher.
Email detention notes to parents
With this setting enabled, teachers can optionally share detention notes with parents when awarding a detention. To find out more about this feature, check out its Knowledgebase article
Email behaviour type associated with detention to parents

Show detention manager to pupils & parents
This setting controls which accounts can see the detention manager, where a pupil’s upcoming detentions can be monitored and updated. The available options are explained below:
Enabled: Selecting this option will will display the detentions manager through both the pupil and parent accounts.
Disabled: Selecting this option will disable the detentions manager for both pupil and parent accounts.
Pupils only: Selecting this option will display the detentions manager through pupil accounts only.
Parents only: Selecting this option will display the detentions manager through parent accounts only.
